What made you want to become a singer as a job.
I have always enjoyed playing music. The only thing I’ve ever wanted was to be an artist. Long ago, before I knew about people picking jobs, I dreamed of being a singer. So, I refer to it as a gift from God. I didn’t choose music, music chose me.
Your recent work with Sony Music on the song Aa Gya Ni has been getting a lot of attention. How did you get this opportunity.
Well, either it’s a coincidence or my desires coming true. I had always wanted to work with them since 2019, when I moved to Mumbai. After four years, it has become true.
Thinking back on your experience of being a finalist on Voice of Punjab, how has your life changed.
It has been an impressive journey. I have grown up emotionally and spiritually. I went from being on Voice of Punjab to Voice India, and now I am being launched by a huge pop label. The only thing I likely did was give up control and follow God’s plan.
Can you tell us about your upcoming projects and what the audience should expect.
I am releasing a whole album with Sony Music, and I have some individual songs coming out soon.
Do you have a favorite Bollywood actor whose personality fits well with your voice style.
I have always had a strong connection with Diljit Dosanjh. You can call it the Punjabi factor, but there’s something about him that makes people like him wherever he goes. And I believe that as a musician, the greatest thing you can offer to your audience is a strong connection.
Is there a particular singer or band whose music you feel is always good and you could listen to forever. If yes, what do you like about their music.
I grew up listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Gurdas Maan. Their songs throughout the years have helped me deal with all types of feelings in life – whether they were positive or negative. The best thing about them is that their music can please everyone, from young to old and from different backgrounds. There is nothing better than that.
Collaborations are now a very important part of the music industry. If you could work together with any artist, who would it be.
I have been constantly wishing for this and truly believe that it will happen one day – it’s Gurdas Maan sahab.
