Noah Schnapp is happy that his character in ‘Stranger Things’ has helped him be open about being gay. Just like his character in the show, he didn’t know how to handle the topic before.
In a talk with Variety, Schnapp revealed that playing his character Will Byers in “Stranger Things” helped him come to terms with his own sexuality. The 18-year-old actor said he kept delaying sharing a video announcement he had recorded on his phone.
His friends kept sending him messages asking when he was going to share something and they were excited to see how people would react. Schnapp kept responding that he wasn’t prepared yet. I am not prepared. “I am not prepared. ”
After his family left his twin sister, Chloe, at college in Boston on January 5th, he finally felt prepared. As they began their long drive back home to Westchester, New York, he shared an eight-second video with over 31 million TikTok followers. I was afraid to tell my friends and family that I am gay for 18 years. But when I finally did, they all said they already knew.
Schnapp said that once I fully accepted that Will was gay, I quickly started accepting it for myself as well. I would be in a very different situation if I didn’t have Will to act as me, and to support and encourage me to be happy with who I am.
The founder of a hazelnut spread called TBH said that playing a certain role helped them realize their true identity. They believe that if they hadn’t played that character, they would have kept their true self hidden.
At first, Schnapp didn’t want to admit or talk about his sexual orientation.
However, when he publicly confirmed that his character was gay, it changed how he viewed things.

“It created a big reaction in the media, and everyone celebrated by saying, ‘Oh, Will is gay. Hooray'” he remembered I looked at many comments on Instagram and TikTok. There was nothing wrong with him being gay. I thought that since he has a lot of help, I shouldn’t be concerned about anything.
Since Schnapp started being honest about his feelings, he was able to enjoy his first Pride Month in New York City. He posted pictures on Instagram to show his celebrations. The pictures included him wearing a colorful T-shirt that said “Straight Out of the Closet”.
He wrote, “It was my first time being proud,” with the post.
